Dr. Rainer Hess
Dr. Rainer Hess is a partner in the law firm Hess Anwälte Kanzlei für Medizin- und Gesundheitsrecht. In addition to this, he is chairman of the GBG Health Goals Committee and of the board of trustees of the Health Knowledge Foundation.
Born in 1940, Rainer Hess, Dr. jur., completed his studies in Aachen, Berlin, Kiel and Cologne. In 1972 he successfully completed his PhD in tax law and was admitted to the bar.
From 1969, he worked as legal advisor for the Association of Senior Hospital Doctors and from 1971 as deputy head of the joint legal department of the German Medical Association (BÄK) and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV).
From 1988 to 2003, he was Chief Executive Officer of the KBV. From 2004 to 2012, he was non-partisan chairman of the Federal Joint Committee. In 2013, he was appointed to the board of the German Foundation for Organ Transplantation.
